Study Overview:
The Ponemon Institute administered the large scale, Web-based national study between 7 and 30 September 2004. The survey was sent to more than 7,300 individuals (apparently in the U.S.A.), 18 years of age and older, with a response rate of 1,197.

Statistics From This Study:

• Around 30% of people are unsure or unwilling to use biometrics for online authentication
• Mixed feelings exist about how strict authentication systems should work
• More than half of users don't want their accounts locked out due to bad password entries
• Nearly two thirds of users don't want to be forced to change passwords
• Three-forths of users would like a single identity for accessing various online systems
• Users weigh in on what type of organizations should have strong identification safeguards
