Percentage of people who change their password regularly and their reasoning

Study: Hole in password safety net
Date: June 24 2002

Only one in ten (10%) people change their passwords every month. Demographically the worst offending group in the UK are the over-50 ‘silver surfers’, two-thirds of whom never change their passwords

Over a quarter said they didn’t change simply because they don’t like having to remember a new one, nearly a fifth find it irritating to change a password, and one in eight (12.5%) people feel sentimentally attached to their password or claim they simply forget.
