Date: November 1981 Publication: Communications of the ACM, Volume 24, Number 11 Page(s): 770 - 772 Publisher: ACM Source 1: http://research.microsoft.com/users/lamport/pubs/password.pdf Abstract or Summary:
A method of user password authentication is described which is secure even if an intruder can read the system's data, and can tamper with or eavesdrop on the communication between the user and the system. The method assums a secure one-way encryption function and can be implemented with a microcomputer in the user's terminal.
