Woman seeks revenge on ex-boyfriend by deleting data using his password
Incident Date: April 2004 Incident Location: Takaoka Japan The fury of a woman scorned can sometimes drive her to seek revenge against her antagonist in imaginative ways. Such was the case of a Japanese woman who sought retribution against the man who had broken off their relationship. Instead of more traditional reactions like making harassing phone calls or throwing out his possessions, she logged onto his online gaming account and deleted his game data. The man and woman met playing the Internet game Lineage in the fall of 2003. Their chats led to a physical meeting and a relationship. The relationship lasted only a short while, but it was apparently long enough for the resident of Takaoka Japan to obtain her boyfriend’s Lineage account username and password. In April of 2004 she logged into the game and erased the virtual weapons, clothing, and other items the man had acquired for his character. Police were notified of the incident by the ex-boyfriend and they passed on the information to the Fukushima District Public Prosecutors Office. The woman now faces accusations that she broke the law by illegally accessing his account. She has admitted to the crime but her punishment was not yet decided at the time of this story.
