Criminal uses vice president's password at former employer to access confidential data
Incident Date: August 2003 Incident Location: Shrewsbury MA USA Alberto Gomes of Shrewsbury, MA was sentenced to one year of probation and 50 hours of community service in Westborough District Court for using a manager’s password to hack into his former employer, Aegis Associates Inc. Mr. Gomes was also barred from any form of communication with Aegis, which is a technical services company. After leaving Aegis, Mr. Gomes went to work for a competitor. In August of 2003, Mr. Gomes attempted to access the computer systems of Aegis. He first tried his former account credentials and failed. Then he relied on his knowledge of the Aegis vice president’s password to enter the company’s computer. Once in, he reviewed client information from Aegis’ customer database and perused the vice president’s email. Gomes had never been arrested for the incident but admitted to his crimes in court. He received the sentence on October 21, 2004.
