Abstract or Summary:
Many aspects of security resemble a cat and mouse game: systems are built, broken, fixed, broken again, and on, and on. Passwords are essential part of computer security (whether you like it or not) and they are also a great example of this cat & mouse game.

This talk will focus on how password protection mechanism in software have evolved in past decade: how they failed and how they were (or were not) fixed. In the day of industry acknowledged standards for almost everything (including password security) you’ll be surprised how many software vendors choose to reinvent the wheel and fail to do it properly.
